The passing of Michael “Mike” Sawicki of Humboldt, SK, occurred at Humboldt District Hospital, Humboldt, on Saturday, August 22, 2015, at the age of 82 years. Mike was born on March 20, 1933 to Joe and Rose (nee Stadnyk) Sawicki in the Bruno District. He attended Mt. Carmel, Cranich Lake and Sunlight schools, and after his education worked as a labourer on different farms in the area. From 1952-1965, Mike worked for the Department of Highways. He also farmed in the Burr district which he purchased in 1961. Then in 1966 he started working for the RM of Wolverine until his retirement. Mike continued to farm until a move into Humboldt was made in 1996. Mike married Elizabeth Becker in 1998 and continued farming until 2001. Mike was a jack-of-all trades including mechanical work, carpentry, electrical, welding, etc. He enjoyed restoring older vehicles, sewing, leatherwork, curling and attending polka fests. He also enjoyed travelling and was a snowbird for 17 years. Mike is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (nee Stanjek) Becker-Sawicki; his children: Debra(Rodney) Montour and their son Kylee; Wayne(Jackie) Sawicki; Elizabeth’s children: Irene(Gerald) Purcell and daughter Raissa; Myron(Janet) Becker and family: Chad(Kara) Becker and Kim(Jason) Nagel; Kevin(Tracey) Becker and family Lindsay and Melissa; Lorna(Darrin) Smith and family Cory, Colin, Cameron, Sarah, Nathan and Kayden; Elaine’s family: (Murray Lux) and family Jason(Danielle) Lux and Sher (Mike) Lerat; siblings: Ann Siermachesky, Roman(Betty) Sawicki, Peter(Sylvia) Sawicki, and Darlene(Ken) Lenyk; sister-in-law, Carol Sawicki; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his son, Derrick Sawicki; parents, Joe and Rose (nee Stadnyk) Sawicki; brother, Frank Sawicki; brother-in-law, Harry Siermachesky; and step-daughter, Elaine Lux. The Funeral Mass for Mike was offered at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt, on Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at 10:00 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Cosmas Epifano, OSB. Others taking part were: Kylee Montour, crossbearer; Lori Hinz and Sherry Gursky, scripture readers; Irene Purcell, intentions; Chad Becker and Colin Reifferscheid, giftbearers; and Lori Hinz and Lyle Sawicki, memorial table attendants. Music ministry was provided by director Loretta Schugmann, organist Marie Aubin, and members of the St. Augustine Parish Funeral Choir. Honorary pallbearers were all those who shared in Mike’s life. Active pallbearers were Bob Wignes, Gerald Purcell, Kevin Becker, Darrell Sawicki, Ellery Siermachesky and Kevin Sawicki. Interment followed at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Saskatoon, SK. Memorial donations may be directed to either the Canadian Cancer Society or the Humboldt District Hospital Foundation General Equipment Fund. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
