SENKO: Michael Andrew
December 6, 1926 – May 4, 2015
Mr. Michael “Mike” Andrew Senko of Central Parkland Lodge, Lanigan, SK, passed away at his residence on Monday, May 4, 2015. He was 88 years of age. Mike was born December 6, 1926 to Andrew and Anna (nee Huculak) Senko in the Guernsey, SK, district. He grew up on the family farm and attended Mile End School in the Wolverine area. When his father passed away in 1951, Mike and his brothers farmed their father’s land. Mike and Jean moved to Wainwright, AB where they were married on July 30, 1955; while there he worked construction on a bridge that was СƵ built. They only spent a short period of time in Alberta before moving to a farm near Lanigan in 1956. That same year, they were blessed with the birth of Geraldine, and then Micheal in 1969. Mike enjoyed farming with Jean; between the cattle, horses, chickens, fields and garden they kept themselves busy all year long. One of Mike’s favorite things to do was work with his horses; he always had a team of horses that he could hook up. One of his pastimes was attending auction sales. If there were no good buys, it was still a good place to visit. Coffee was always on and friends and neighbours were always welcome to stop in for a visit. Mike was always good at telling stories or coming up with some wise crack joke. He was also a very confident card player; Kaiser and Cribbage were his favorites. Attending Sunday morning Mass was always a priority. Mike was a dedicated member of both Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Parish and St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Mike loved spending time with his grandkids and was always finding something for them to do on the farm. You could always find him busy tinkering with something out in his little shop; it was always interesting to go see what he was up to. Mike moved into Central Parkland Lodge, Lanigan, in 2014 and made many new friends there. In his last year his greatest joy was when his great grandson Benjamin was born. Mike will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his daughter, Geraldine (Kevin) Ehalt of Humboldt, SK, and family, Rhonda (Blair) Swarbrick of Regina, SK, and their son Benjamin, Nicole (Brett) Walchuk of Moose Jaw, SK, and Eric Ehalt of Lanigan; one brother and two sisters: Cyril (Dianne) Senko of Lanigan; Betty Hall of Humboldt, and Mary (Joe) Syroteuk of Middle Lake, SK; and by sister-in-law, Marguerite Senko of Humboldt, SK. He was predeceased by his wife, Jean (nee Kostuk) Senko; son, Michael John Senko (in infancy); parents, Andrew and Anna (nee Huculak) Senko; three brothers: John (Mary) Senko, William Senko, and Steven Senko (in infancy); and by brother-in-law, Harold Hall. The Prayer Service was held at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Lanigan, on Thursday, May 7, 2015, at 7:30 p.m., presided by Fr. Paul Paproski, OSB. Scripture readers were Fred Monchuk and Doreen Possberg. Music ministry was provided by organist William Dodd. The Funeral Mass was offered on Friday, May 8, 2015, at 10:30 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Paul Paproski, OSB. Others taking part were: Gary Senko, crossbearer; Lorne Skoronski and Don Courchene, scripture readers; Charolette Thomson, intentions; Rhonda Swarbrick and Nicole Walchuk, giftbearers; Susan Dodd, Eucharistic minister; Judy Aubin and Pat Bergquist, memorial table attendants. Active pallbearers were Eric Ehalt, Brett Walchuk, Blair Swarbrick, Paul Senko, Shawn Senko and Karl Senko. Interment followed at Sacred Heart U.C. Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to either the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Sacred Heart U.C. Cemetery, or St. Mary’s R.C. Church. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
