FISCHER: Marcellus John

The death of Mr. Marcellus "Marcel" Fischer of St. Mary's Villa, Humboldt, SK, occurred at his residence on Wednesday, July 23, 2014. He was 74 years of age. Marcel, the third son of Ignatius and Helen (nee Scheiber) Fischer, was born on April 20, 1940, on the family farm. He was premature and weighed less than three pounds at birth but defied the odds without the use of an incubator or modern hospital equipment. Marcel attended Monastery School. He did not like to go to school so some days he tried hiding in the trees instead of going to school. There were always chores to do like raking up pine cones, cutting the grass, and helping his father take care of the churchyard and cemetery. In 1959, Marcel became employed at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Humboldt in the housekeeping department and worked there until 1994 when he retired after 35 years. He enjoyed his retirement by going visiting and was a regular patron of the coffee row. Marcel moved to St. Mary's Villa in Humboldt in 2012. Marcel is survived by his siblings: Elmer (Diane) Fischer, Rosemarie (Ray) Ehalt, Danny (Janice) Fischer; two sisters-in-law: Laurel Fisher, Shirley Fischer; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Ignatius and Helen (nee Scheiber) Fischer, two brothers: Arnold Fisher and Clarence Fischer; and niece, Bonnie Fischer. A private family graveside service was held.
