LESSMEISTER: Kenneth Oswald

The death of Mr. Kenneth "Ken" Lessmeister of Humboldt, SK, occurred at St. Mary's Villa, Humboldt, on Thursday, February 27, 2014. He was 84 years of age. Ken, the youngest of ten children, was born to Henry and Bertha (nee Herman) Lessmeister, on May 15, 1929 in the Verndale District and attended Lenore Valley School and later Selmond School. In 1963, Ken married Marj Althouse, and the first year of their marriage was spent on the Jesse Gay farm and later they moved to the Palmer place. They were blessed with four sons and two daughters: Patricia, Rodney, Gregory, Scott, Kent and Candace. They operated a small mixed farm, including several different kinds of animals. Attending sports events and other family outings was their enjoyment as well as taking a drive in the country to check out crops which led to stopping for a visit to neighbors to have coffee. Ken worked for Willard Anderson and then Lungs Seed Cleaning Plant; he also did a little hobby woodworking. Ken enjoyed the simple things in life; nature, watching birds and gardening were things that brought him pleasure. In 2011, he moved to St. Mary's Villa. Ken was very family oriented and family was his main priority. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Marj (nee Althouse) Lessmeister of Middle Lake; his children: Pat (Wade) Braun of Dalmeny and their children Damian, Brennan, Alyssa and Jessica; Rod (Cheryl) Lessmeister of Warman and their children Noah and Kaya; Greg (Carol) Lessmeister of Edmonton and their children Hanna, Erin, Megan and Jordan; Scott (Colleen) Lessmeister of Lake Lenore and their children Miranda and Thomas; Kent's children Ryan, Sarah, Emily, Jacob and Rebecca of Carmel; Candace (Rob) Fredericks of Memphis, TN and their children Skye and Kyle; and sister-in-law Fran Lessmeister of Humboldt. Ken was predeceased by daughter Mary Elizabeth (in infancy); son Kent Lessmeister; parents Henry and Bertha (nee Herman) Lessmeister; and siblings: Henry Lessmeister, Frank Lessmeister, Herman Lessmeister, Joe (Celestine) Lessmeister, Henrietta (Bert) Ecker, Agnes (Herman) Smith, Marie Lessmeister, Adolph Lessmeister and Albert Lessmeister. A Funeral Mass for Ken was offered at St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, Lake Lenore on Monday, March 3, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. celebrated by Fr. Richard Meidl, OSB. Others taking part were: Thomas Lessmeister, crossbearer; Miranda Lessmeister and Alyssa Braun, scripture readers; Brennan Braun, intentions; Hanna Lessmeister and Ryan Lessmeister, giftbearers; Margaret Cody and Della Bollefer, memorial table attendants; Colette Gerwing and Alice Buttinger, music ministry; and the eulogy was delivered by Greg Lessmeister. Honorary pallbearers were "all of Ken's grandchildren". Active pallbearers were Rod Lessmeister, Greg Lessmeister, Scott Lessmeister, Rob Fredericks, Wade Braun and Damian Braun. Interment followed at St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Cemetery, Lake Lenore. Memorial donations may be directed to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan or to St. Mary's Villa Foundation.
