John Joseph TherresNovember 9, 1953 - October 12, 2011It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, John Joseph Therres, of Humboldt, SK. His death occurred peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, at Humboldt District Hospital on Wednesday, October 12, 2011, following a courageous struggle with cancer. He was 57 years of age. John, the eighth of eleven children, was born on November 9, 1953, to George and Lorraine (nee Bolster) Therres in St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Humboldt. He grew up on the family farm in the Humboldt district and attended Marysburg School until Grade 5. John continued his education in Humboldt. At the age of 17, he joined the workforce. Initially, John was employed at Revelstoke in Allan, SK, where he met the love of his life, Claudine Boechler. Soon after, in 1972, he followed his lifelong dream of becoming a carpenter. On May 17, 1975, John and Claudine were married in Allan. They began their life together in Humboldt and, six months later, moved to Prince Albert, SK, where John continued his career as a carpenter. In 1979, John, Claudine and their first two children, Christopher and Robyn, moved to a farm near Muenster, where John set up his own company, Therres Construction. While living there, three more children, George, Jodie and Michelle, were born. Eventually, the Therres family relocated to another yard site in the Muenster district. John and Claudine's sixth child, Matthew, was born, thus completing their family circle. In 2001, John accepted employment with Tasko Developments. While working there, he experienced some of his most memorable times, both with the projects he was a part of and with the people he worked side-by-side with. One of the jobs he was proud to work on with his crew was the St. Augustine Parish Hall. Throughout his 35 plus years carpentry career, John was respected for his integrity, determination, dependability and his reputation as a hard worker. The Therres farm was always a place for people to stop by with "a cold one" or a coffee, whichever was needed at the time. (The "cold, cold ones" were always brought by the company, since John always forgot to put any in the fridge.) John and Claudine's house was a second home to many, who always received a warm welcome. The farm still belongs in the Therres family to the youngest son, Matthew. Another passion was hunting, at the crack of dawn he was always ready to go. John was always available, ready for a hot cup of coffee with his friends and family. John was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it or offering advice whether you needed it or not. An avid outdoorsman, John loved to go fishing and camping with his family. Since the days of his youth, John had always had a passion for motorcycling and, in later years, that passion was brought to fruition when he bought a Harley Davidson motorbike. He and Claudine loved to spend time travelling around on the bike looking for new places they had never seen. More than anything, John was known for his kindness, sense of humor, and the deep love he had for his family and friends. John will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 36 years, Claudine (nee Boechler) Therres; their six children, eight grandchildren and one on the way: Christopher (Debbie) Therres and family, Logan and Nathan; Robyn (Kalvan) Manderscheid and family, Kobe and Avery; George (KylaRae) Therres and daughter Kyra; Jodie (Graeme) Armstrong and family, Noah, George and James; Michelle (Kurtis Freve) Therres (and forthcoming baby); and Matthew Therres; his mother, Lorraine (nee Bolster) Therres; four brothers and four sisters: Donald Therres, Robert (Kathy) Therres, Lenard (Marlene) Therres, Beatrice Klaschinsky, Sharon (Kenneth) Maynard, Carol (Bruce) Ehman, Lynn (Jerry) Huls, and Daryl (Patty) Therres; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, George Therres; brother, Lee Therres; sister, Doreen Therres (in infancy); brother-in-law, Daniel Klaschinsky; and by his parents-in-law, Anton and Katherine Boechler. The Prayer Service for John was held at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, on Friday, October 14, 2011, at 7:30 p.m., led by Walter Sarauer and organist Dolores Hinz. Scripture readers were Sharon Maynard and Lori Boechler, and the eulogy was delivered by Darren Schleper. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine R.C. Church on Saturday, October 15, 2011, at 10:00 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Emile April. Others taking part were: Kobe Struck, cross bearer; Lee Therres and Bruce Ehman, scripture readers; Cheryl Boechler, intentions; Logan and Nathan Therres, Noah, George and James Armstrong, Avery Manderscheid, and Kyra Therres, gift bearers; Scott Gehlen and Chad Waldbauer, ushers. Music ministry was provided by Greg Schulte and Kristin Raney. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in John's life." Active pallbearers were Elton Boechler, Tim Boechler, Terry Boechler, Donald Therres, Lenard Therres and Daryl Therres. Interment followed at St. Augustine R.C. Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to either the Canadian Cancer Society or the Saskatchewan Lung Association. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
