Herman Joseph WalbyAugust 18, 1930 - May 2, 2011The death of Mr. Herman Joseph Walby of Watson occurred at Humboldt District Hospital on Monday, May 2, 2011. He was 80 years of age, and the last surviving member of his generation. Herman was born on August 18, 1930, to Joseph and Katherine (nee Vossen) Walby at Watson. He grew up in the Daphne area and attended Rose Bush Rural School. At an early age, as well as helping his brothers on the farm, Herman started working at Matt Dobmeier's service station. On October 27, 1954, he married his soul-mate, Clare Sanders, in Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Watson. Five children, three daughters and two sons were born to them; however, one son died in infancy. For the next 40 years, Herman and Clare resided on the same 160 acres that Herman's father had homesteaded in 1903. Herman was employed by the Department of Highways for 30 years, and retired in 1987. Herman lived life to the fullest, and his enthusiasm was contagious. Next to his family, his passions were woodworking, fishing, travelling to the mountains in Alberta and British Columbia, and making music with the wide variety of instruments he could play. In addition, Herman was the quintessential "people person" who knew at least someone no matter where he went; he loved 小蓝视频 in the public, socializing, and story-telling to family, friends, and acquaintances alike. On October 16, 2000, he lost his soul-mate and wife of 46 years. With a broken heart, Herman said: "Our house in town sure got quiet and lonesome. Thank God for family and friends". He continued to live in their home until 小蓝视频 hospitalized two weeks ago. Herman will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his four children, 13 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren: Kathy (John) Lucas of Vancouver, BC, and family, Trevor (Elizabeth) and their children, Brandon, Damien, Dayton, T.J., Serenity and Kesler, Aaron, and Erica and her daughter Savannah; Larry (Diane) Walby of Humboldt and family, Cassandra (Eric) Crone, Jonnathan and Larrys's daughter's: Chrissy (David) Kirk and children, Lane, Ashton and Grace; and Angie (Kevin) Berglund and children Kaelynn, Lynaya and Clayton; Anna (Glen) Schreyer of Saskatoon and family, Glen and his son Chase, Kristy (Jon) Suik, and Ashlee; and Colette (John) Klassen of Weyburn and family, Justin, Destinee and Johnelle; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Clare (nee Sanders) Walby (October 16, 2000); son, Gordon Walby (in infancy); parents, Joseph and Katherine (nee Vossen) Walby; and by four brothers and two sisters: Edward Walby, John Walby, Herbert Walby, Emma Bracke, Marie Gertkin and Aloys Walby. The Prayer Service for Herman was held at Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Watson, on Thursday, May 5, 2011, at 7:30 p.m., led by Brad Gaetz & Willy Gaudet. Scripture readers were Chelsea Hustej and Angie Berglund, and the eulogy was delivered by Glen Yeo. The Funeral Mass was offered at Sacred Heart R.C. Church on Friday, May 6, 2011, at 10:00 a.m., con celebrated by Fr. Darryl Millette & Fr. Emile April. Scripture readers were: Chelsea Hustej and Angie Berglund. Cross bearer was: Linda Kunz. Music ministry was provided by the Sacred Heart Parish Choir. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in Herman's life". Active pallbearers were Jon Suik, John Klassen, Glen Schreyer, Tom Aspel, Eric Crone, Diane Walby and Trevor Levitt. Interment followed at Sacred Heart R.C. Cemetery, next to his wife, Clare (nee Sanders) Walby, who predeceased him on October 16, 2000. Memorial donations may be directed to either the Sacred Heart R.C.
