Helen Elizabeth (nee Nordick) Breker August 18, 1921 - August 9, 2012

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Helen Elizabeth (nee Nordick) Breker of Englefeld, SK, on Thursday, August 9, 2012. She was 90 years of age. Helen, the oldest of 13 children, was born and raised on the family farm east of Englefeld. She obtained her Grade 8 education from Englefeld School. After schooling, Helen helped out on the farm and neighbouring farms by cooking, cleaning and doing field work. On July 6, 1943, Helen married Alois Breker at the Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church in Englefeld. The couple adopted four children and fostered four children. They lived on the original homestead of August and Theresia Breker's East of Englefeld, where they continued to farm until Danny took over after Alois' death. Helen and Alois farmed side by side for 46 years, which included a dairy farm which they started with Danny in 1974, as well as raising chickens, grain farming and growing a large garden. For many years she also shared the job of driving the school bus with Alois. She had many talents and hobbies which included sewing clothes, quilting, selling Avon, decorating wedding and birthday cakes, curling, bowling, playing cards, and especially square dancing in her earlier years. Helen was a strong supporter of the Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church and was a dedicated member of the Englefeld CWL serving as president and convener. She had a strong and unwavering faith and prayed the rosary every day. Family was very important to Helen. She helped her siblings and looked after her parents whenever she could. Helen lived in her own home up until her death with the help and support of Danny and Laurie and their family, Amy, Erin, Ian and Shawna. Helen will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her children: Marilyn, Irene, Victor, Nick, Danny, Delbert and Delphine; her four sisters: Cecilia (Ed) Wacholtz of Englefeld; Marie Moldenhauer of Saskatoon; Mildred Deibert of Saskatoon; and Dianne Fetter of Watson; her two brothers: Ray (Marie) Nordick of Englefeld; and Bill (Hazel) Nordick of Kitchener, ON; and sister-in-law, Alice Nordick of Humboldt; by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Alois Breker; her parents, August and Mary (nee Beck) Nordick; foster son, Randy; three brothers and three sisters, Arthur Nordick, Arnold Nordick, twins Jerome and Jeannette Nordick (both in infancy), Ida Schmitz, and Louise Bohnen; by sister-in-law, Bobbie Nordick; and by brothers-in-law, Andrew Schmitz, Ron Bohnen, Ted Moldenhauer, Gordon Fetter and Don Deibert. The Prayer Service for Helen was held at Holy Guardian Angels R.C. Church, Englefeld, on Sunday, August 12, 2012, at 7:30 p.m., presided by Audrey Zimmerman and Patsy Knafelc. Scripture readers were Erin Wolff and Ian Breker. The Funeral Mass was offered at Holy Guardian Angels R.C. Church on Monday, August 13, 2012, at 10:00 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Darryl Millette.
