Graham Ross

ROSS: Graham Graham Alexander was born on July 2, 1919 at Burr to George and Grace (nee Fraser) Ross, both originally from Scotland. Graham attended Hillsley and Morven schools, completing Grade 8. He worked on the farm until World War II.

Graham Alexander was born on July 2, 1919 at Burr to George and Grace (nee Fraser) Ross, both originally from Scotland. Graham attended Hillsley and Morven schools, completing Grade 8. He worked on the farm until World War II. In March 1941 Graham volunteered and was subsequently called for Basic training in Regina. In December 1941 he signed for active service, joining the artillery, and in December 1942, arrived in England. In June 1944 his Division landed on the shores of Normandy. The Division pursued the battle in Belgium with heavy fighting, finally reaching Holland. The liberation of Holland and the end of the war came May 6, 1945. They occupied Oldenburg, Germany until February 1946 when they returned home from the European Continent. Graham returned to farming and for two winters he went to Vocational Agricultural School in Saskatoon and Prince Albert. He rented land near home in 1950. On April 28, 1951 Graham and Catherine Hauber were married and in 1956 they purchased the Joe Merkosky farm in the St. Gertrude District. Graham helped organized the Humboldt Animal Breeding Co-op in 1960. He was councillor for division 6, RM of Leroy from 1968 – 1976. From 1977 – 1987 he was a member of the Humboldt Co-op Board of Directors. In September 1983 Graham and Cathy moved to Muenster. Graham became a charter member of the Abbot Bruno Doerfler K.C. Council in 1984. From 1984 – 1992 Graham was caretaker of St. Peter’s Cathedral, after which time he did volunteer work from 1992 – 1999. In April 2001, Graham and Cathy moved to Humboldt. After Catherine passed away in December 2009, Graham moved to Ituna, where he remained until he passed away on June 26, 2016. Graham will be lovingly remembered by five sons, 14 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren: Don (Lois) Ross of Regina and family, James (Karen) and their children Bryden & Tenley, and Christa (Jarret); Gord (Jocelyn) Ross of Saskatoon and family, Shauna (Chris) and their children Kennedy, Reese & Jackson, Tom (Blair) and their son Sam, Steph (Dave) and their children Connor & Daelyn, Katie, Rochelle and Parker; Bill (Wanda) Ross of Humboldt and family Adam (April), Sherri & Megan; Robert (Susan) Ross of Ituna and family, Tasha (Darren) and their children Tynan, Kadence & Madyx, Micheal; and Ken (Amy) Ross of Ituna and daughter Madison; sister-in-law, Adeline Hauber of Camrose, AB; four nieces and one nephew. Graham was predeceased by his wife Catherine, one son, Thomas Ross (in infancy); his parents George and Grace Ross; and one brother William Ross. The Funeral Service for Graham was held on Monday, July 4, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Westminster United Church, Humboldt. Interment followed in the St. Gertrude Cemetery. Memorial Donations in Graham’s memory may be made to the St. Gertrude Community. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home, Humboldt.
