GLOEDEN: Gordon

April 13, 1930 - December 3, 2014

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a wonderful man; a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Dad was raised on the farm in Middle Lake, Sk and met the love of his life not far away in Pilger. He married Cecilia (nee Burkart) in the fall of 1951 and they recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. He was a proud man and lived by strong principles. His wise and practical approach to handling life鈥檚 challenges was an inspiration to both his family and friends. He was respected for his honesty, his fairness, generosity and compassion for anyone or anything that was hurting. He excelled at everything he did and was known to be a perfectionist by those lucky enough to work with him or know him well. His favourite saying was 鈥渋f you鈥檙e going to do it, do it the best you can鈥. Dad enjoyed a long and successful career in the building business thanks to his tenacious work ethic and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life and built may life long friendships along the way. Retirement to Dad was working just a few less hours per day. With his usual zest for life he transformed 10 acres of sand and bush to one of the most beautiful and well treed acreages in the province. He was happiest when building something - new fences, a new horse barn, cutting grass on his tractor, or planting more trees. Together with Mom, they raised over 35 thoroughbred horses and were very active in thoroughbred racing at Marquis Downs in Saskatoon and other Canadian race tracks. Incredibly, he managed to carve out some time for golfing with friends and was quite proud of his 鈥渉ole in one鈥 trophy from the Riverside Golf Course. Dad suffered dementia in the last few years and although he endured a steady decline he maintained a strong and quiet dignity right to the end. He spent his last year at Luther and we would like to thank Dr. Martin and the wonderful staff there for their care and compassion. We will always appreciate their efforts to comfort both him and us to help get through the last few hours of his journey. Dad was predeceased by his son, Morley Gloeden, in 2002. He is survived by his beloved wife, Cecilia (nee Burkart), daughter, Faye Gloeden, grandchildren, Tracy Templeton, Lori (Tyson) Mack, Kim Krivoshein (Sara Wheelwright), Erin (Chris) Jones along with one special great-granddaughter, Olivia Mack. At his request there will be a private graveside memorial to be determined at a later date. Funeral arrangements are in the care of Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
