Gloria Ann (nee Bowman) SmithJune 12, 1928 - September 19, 2010
Gloria Smith of Humboldt passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, September 19, 2010, at Humboldt District Hospital. She was 82 years of age. Gloria was born in Humboldt on June 12, 1928, to Titus and Constance (nee Wingrove) Bowman. She was raised on the family farm southwest of Humboldt and went to school at Golden Acre, Humboldt Collegiate Institute, and Normal School (Teachers College) in Saskatoon. Gloria taught at rural schools in Saskatchewan for three years. She married Winston Smith on July 5, 1949, in St. Andrew's Anglican Church, Humboldt. Gloria and Winston raised a family of three and farmed near Mancroft Church. There was always great community spirit. When neighbours needed help, they helped. Gloria was also very active in the community and church. In 1976, Winston and Gloria sold the farm and built a new home in Humboldt. In their retirement years, they made trips to California, Florida, Arizona, Alaska, the Maritimes, and England. They had a motor home and fishing boat and spent many enjoyable days fishing and just relaxing. Golfing, curling, bowling and playing cards with friends filled many more pleasant hours. Gloria loved sewing, knitting, quilting, and cooking. She was known for making Christmas ornaments for friends and family. She loved sunsets, rainbows, and all that nature had to offer. Gloria will be lovingly remembered by three children and six grandchildren: Glenn (Donna) Smith of Lloyminster, AB, and family, Trevor, Wayne, Stefanie, and Megan (fianc茅 Jonathan Torresan), Doug (Jacqui) Smith of North Saanich, BC, and son Eric, and Doreen Munro of Lacombe, AB, and son Karl; one brother, David (Marie) Bowman of Humboldt; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law: Kathleen Bowman, Clara Smith, and Dennis Smith, all of Humboldt; and by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Winston Smith (June 18, 2004); parents, Titus and Constance (nee Wingrove) Bowman; three sisters: Lillian Mycock, Edith Koffing, and Mabel Graf; and by one brother, Leslie Bowman.
