WURM: Gerald

June 13, 1948 - January 28, 2014

The death of Mr. Gerald Wurm of Bruno, SK, and formerly of the Peterson district, occurred at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, SK, on January 28, 2014. He was 65 years of age. Gerald was born to Joseph and Emilie (nee Jule) Wurm on June 13, 1948 in Humboldt, SK. He attended school in Peterson up until the end of Grade 9 and then went to Bruno High School up until the age of 16. His career and passion was farming. From a very young age, and up until the day he died, he dreamed about farming and leaving a legacy for his family. Gerald belonged to many organizations and committees, including Sask Wheat Pool, St. Agnes Parish Council, Peterson Hall Committee, Bruno School Board, Bruno Crop Club and, lastly, his most enjoyable position as a councillor with the RM of Bayne, on which he sat for almost 20 years. He made it his hobby to fulfill his duties on various councils to the best of his ability. He was a jack of all trades and especially was an avid welder and mechanic. He was known to make something to do a job better as opposed to look for something to buy. If any of us were looking for something to get a job done, dad was known to say "I'm sure I could make something for that". Another passion was travelling and in his retirement, he and Irene were starting to see the world. His favorite destination was the beaches of Mexico and he was able to get one last visit in just this past December. Gerald will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Irene (nee Tremel) Wurm of Bruno; his children, Joseph(Rebecca) Wurm and their sons Leighton and Camden of Beamsville, ON; Robert(Renee) Wurm and their daughter Kylie of Peterson, SK; Janet(Scott) Warren and their family Andrew, Jacob and Grace of Delisle, SK; siblings, Genevieve(Joseph) Cherwinski of St. John's, NL, Ron(Charlene) Wurm of Regina, SK, Rita(Lloyd) Paulhus of Assiniboia, SK; parents-in-law Alain and Albertine Tremel of Bruno, SK; aunt Faye Wurm of Watson, SK; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws of the Tremel family. He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Emilie (nee Jule) Wurm. The Prayer Service for Gerald was held at St. Bruno Roman Catholic Church on Friday, January 31, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. presided by Fr. Joseph Ackerman, OSB. Scripture readers were Kristen Wurm and Tanis Batty and the eulogists were Janet Warren and Joseph Wurm. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Bruno Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. officiated by Fr. Joseph Ackerman, OSB. Others taking part were: Robert Wurm, crossbearer; Reanne, Jerome and Luke Montpetit, altar servers; Kristen Wurm and Tanis Batty, scripture readers; Jean Tremel, intentions; Rebecca Wurm and Renee Wurm, giftbearers; Denise Krentz, organist; St. Bruno and St. Agnes Parish Choirs, music ministry; and Marilyn Dagenais and Sherry Dust, memorial table attendants. Honorary pallbearers were Gerald's "little troubadours": Leighton, Camden, Kylie, Andrew, Jacob and Grace. Active pallbearers were Ashley Jule, Russell Jule, Robert Jule, Scott Warren, Darrell Wurm and Michael Wurm. Interment followed at St. Agnes R.C. Cemetery, Peterson, SK. Memorial donations may be directed to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada, Heart and Stroke Foundation, the St. Bruno Parish Building Fund, or to the St. Agnes R.C. Church Fund, Peterson, SK. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
