The sudden and unexpected death of Mr. Earl Warren Hoffos of Quill Lake, SK, occurred at his farm residence on Wednesday, March 7, 2012. He was 82 years of age. Bud, as he was affectionately called, was born on December 12, 1929, to Edwin and Mia (nee Mellquist) Hoffos at Vantage in the Assiniboia district of Saskatchewan. He was five years old when the family moved to the Valley Plain district, north of Quill Lake, to homestead. Bud attained his elementary education at Valley Plain and Gardenia country schools. After graduating from Grade 12 at Quill Lake School, he left home to join the workforce. Initially, he was employed by the CNR in Ontario, then moved to Golden, BC, to work in the gold mines. Eventually, Bud moved to Edmonton, AB, and worked as truck driver in the Alberta oil fields. In 1973, he returned to Saskatchewan and joined his brother Robert to take up farming, which he remained active at until the mid-1990s. He kept his land but rented it out, continuing to reside on the farm until the present. Bud loved the land and the farming lifestyle and, since moving back to Saskatchewan, was quite content staying close to home. "He never wanted to leave the land, and he never had to." Bud will be lovingly remembered by one brother and two sisters: Robert (Carol) Hoffos of Humboldt, SK; Doris Rawcliffe of Regina, SK; and MaryAnn (Wayne) Duguid of Kitchener, ON; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces-and-nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Edwin and Mia (nee Mellquist) Hoffos; and by two brothers and one sister: Douglas Hoffos, Murray Hoffos, and Doreen Hoffos. A Graveside Service will take place at the Quill Lake Cemetery at a later date, which will be announced at that time. Memorial donations may be directed to either the Quill Lake Fire Dept., Wesley United Church or St. Michael's North. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
