The passing of Dorothy Strueby of Humboldt, SK, occurred at St. Mary's Villa, on Thursday, September 11, 2014, at the age of 91 years. Dorothy was born at Batoche in the Wakaw area on September 10, 1923 and was adopted by the Stroeder family. She took her schooling in Marysburg and then worked as a hired help in several places. Later on, she lived in Saskatoon where she worked at the King George Hotel. On July 10, 1945, Dorothy married Sylvester Strueby and lived in Moseley, SK. They were blessed with three girls: Lois, Audrey and Esther. Dorothy worked at Bauml's Store in Marysburg and later at Peavey Mart and in 1984 they moved into Humboldt and she continued to work there until she retired. Dorothy had the opportunity of meeting her birth mother and other family members which was a passion of hers to accomplish. She was an avid sports fan, loved playing bingo, and travelling to many places. Dorothy also loved quilting and made blankets for her children and grandchildren. She often went for breakfast and coffee with her many friends in Humboldt. After she sold her home, she resided in the Harry Ford Center in Humboldt. From there she moved to the care home in Watson and then later to St. Mary's Villa in Humboldt. Dorothy is survived by her three daughters: Lois (Cliff) Kutschinski and family, Darcy (Maureen) and children, Alysha and Dylan, Darren (Joy) and children, Tyler and Karli; Audrey (Carl) Clark and family, Shannon (Darrell) and children, Ashley and Torrie, Lindsay (Rhonda) and children, Noah and Andy, and step-children: Derrell, Calvin and Brent; Esther (Mike) Volk and family, Devin (Nichol) and children, Grace and Emma, Kelsey (Cam) and children, Jayce and Jordyn, and step-children: Jeremy, Wes and Michelle. She was predeceased by her husband, Sylvester Strueby (July 5, 1985); and all of her siblings. A Prayer Service for Dorothy was held at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt, on Sunday, September 14, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. presided by Jenny Irwin. Scripture readers were Maureen Kutschinski and Rhonda Stewart and the eulogy was delivered by Kelsey Evers and Shannon Knash. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church on Monday, September 15, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. concelebrated by Fr. Paul Paproski, OSB, and Fr. Demetrius Wasylyniuk, OSB. Others taking part were Marysburg Choir and Humboldt Choir, music ministry; Noah and Andy Stewart, crossbearers; Maureen Kutschinski and Rhonda Stewart, scripture readers; Darren and Ashley Knash, Alysha and Dylan Kutschinski, and Cam Evers, intentions; Nichol Cristo, Joy Kutschinski, Torrie Knash, Jordyn and Jayce Evers and Grace and Emma Cristo, Tyler and Karli, giftbearers; Ed and Isabelle Brockmeyer, memorial table attendants. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in Dorothy's life". Active pallbearers were Darcy Kutschinski, Darren Kutschinski, Shannon Knash, Lindsay Stewart, Devin Cristo and Kelsey Evers. Interment followed at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Cemetery, Humboldt. Memorial donations may be directed to St. Mary's Villa Palliative Care Fund. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
