She was 99 years of age. Caroline was born to Peter and Annie (nee Schmitt) Zens in Humboldt. She grew up on the family farm near Carmel and attended Highgate and Valleyview country schools. Her ability to cook, clean and babysit made Caroline a desired hired girl for local farm families. While working in the Marysburg area she met Ray Albers. A courtship began which led to their marriage in Carmel on Sept. 28, 1936. They made their home on the farm near Marysburg. Caroline often helped Ray with the field work and the animals as well as tending to her household duties. She also found time to take part in many church and community activities. In 1962 they moved to Humboldt, continuing to farm from town. In Humboldt, Caroline was a cook at St. Mary's Villa for a number of years. She was a 48 year member of the CWL, a member of the Fun and Fitness club, taught 4-H for several years, delivered Meals on Wheels, and enjoyed bowling and curling. Caroline was an avid gardener and was known as the "Queen of gardening and preserving". She was an excellent cook and also very handy with needle and thread, sewing her childrens' clothing. Needlework, puzzles and reading were favorite pasttimes and games of Canasta or Smear were enjoyed with family and friends. Caroline had a long life filled with hard work and good memories of her friends and community, but most importantly the love of her family.
