Annette Mary MeyerMay 26, 1936 - April 29, 2012
It is with broken hearts that the family of Annette Mary (nee Polisky) Meyer of St. Mary's Villa, Humboldt, SK, announces her death on Sunday, April 29, 2012. She was 75 years of age. Annette was born on May 26, 1936, to Jack and Magdeline (nee Sawchyn) Polisky in Wynyard, SK. She grew up there and attended East Lynn School in the area until Grade 8. In 1951, Annette came to Humboldt to work at the Princess Caf茅 and later Ray's Bakery. On October 28, 1957, she married Arthur "Art" Meyer. Their union was blessed with three children, one son and two daughters. Annette was an excellent homemaker and loved cooking, baking and gardening. She was a "stay-at-home mom" until 1969, when she began working at Sears. After a 25-year career there, she retired. Her family meant the world to her and the addition of grandchildren and great-grandchildren was a great source of joy and pride in her life. Over the years, in her leisure time, Annette especially enjoyed camping, dancing, and going on casino trips. She was a true "people person" who loved to socialize, had a zest for life, a bubbly personality, a great sense of humor, and an ever-ready smile. Annette loved to laugh and you couldn't help feeling cheery while in her company. In 2001, she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and, four years later, she moved into St. Mary's Villa. While living there, Annette enjoyed the special events offered, particularly going on the Villa van to the Legion every Thursday and Friday to play bingo, and to the Legion's fundraising suppers when they were held. She was also president of the St. Mary's Villa Residents' Council. Sadly, in November 2011, Annette was diagnosed with cancer. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Annette will be lovingly remembered by her three children, seven grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren: Kelly (Debbie) Meyer of Humboldt and family, Cory (Alison) Nachtegaele and children Jaeda and Raia, Jolene Nachtegaele (Trevor) and Skye, and Jessie Nachtegaele; Shelley (Gary) Hoppe of Humboldt and family, Blair (Kerry) Hoppe and children Jayda, Ben and Jake, Kyla Rae (George) Therres, daughter Kyra, (and a second child on the way); and Wendy (Stanley) Hoppe of Bruno, SK, and family, Scott (Amber) Hoppe and children Rylan, Reid and Brandt, and Jamie (Ashley) Hoppe (and their first child on the way); special friend, Albert Baylak of Humboldt; two sisters: Stephie (Mike) Chodak of Wadena, SK, and Mary (Raymond) Engstrom of Regina, SK; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws of the Meyer family. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur "Art" Meyer (1990); parents, Jack and Magdeline (nee Sawchyn) Polisky; and by her father-and-mother-in-law, Herbert and Elizabeth (nee Korte) Meyer. The Prayer Service for Annette was held at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at 7:30 p.m., led by Nestor Trach and organist Kathy Phillips. Scripture readers were Kerry Hoppe and Ashley Hoppe, and the eulogy was delivered by Kyla Rae Therres and Scott Hoppe. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine R.C. Church on Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at 10:00 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Joseph Ackerman, OSB. Others taking part were: Rylan Hoppe, crossbearer; Kerry Hoppe and Ashley Hoppe, scripture readers; Amber Hoppe, intentions; Annette's great-grandchildren, giftbearers. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in Annette's life". Active pallbearers were Blair Hoppe, Kyla Rae Therres, Scott Hoppe, Jamie Hoppe, Gary Hoppe, and Stanley Hoppe.
