ZINTEL: Agnes

November 12, 1917 - September 25, 2014

Agnes (nee Heidgerken) Zintel passed away peacefully at St. Mary's Villa in Humboldt, SK, at the age of 96 years. She was the youngest child of Frederick and Katherine (nee Woell) Heidgerken. Agnes received her education in Humboldt and Saskatoon but Humboldt was home during her single life where she made lifelong friends. She worked with her brother, Louis, in the Heidgerken Insurance business. Agnes contributed to the war effort with time spent in Ottawa working for the federal government. She was a devoted member of St. Augustine Roman Catholic Parish and joined the CWL at age 20 years, receiving 75 years recognition. Agnes became a novice of the Oblates of St. Benedict (St. Peter's Abbey) July 1962 and a full-fledged Oblate July 1963. She cared about her community and supported the Friends of the Water Tower in their fundraising efforts to preserve it as a municipal heritage property. On October 20, 1962 Agnes married Adolph Zintel of Humboldt (Marysburg). They lived in Humboldt, Saskatoon and Kelowna. Agnes and Adolph travelled, socialized with friends and relatives, maintained a yard and garden as well as fruit trees in Kelowna. They held family gatherings on special holidays throughout the year which the grandchildren loved dearly. The practice of their faith and church attendance was a big part of their life. They returned to Humboldt in 1981. In December of 2009, Agnes became a resident of St. Mary's Villa, Humboldt, until her passing. Agnes is remembered lovingly by her stepchildren Helen Larratt, Edward (Evelyn) Zintel, Antoinette (Bud) Miller and Dolores Anthony; 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and two great, great-grandchildren; by nieces Helen (Walter) Flythe, Cathy (George) Morris, Mary Lea (Terry) Malin; niece-in-law, June Heidgerken; by great-nieces and nephews; and by great, great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Adolph Zintel, stepchildren Marie VanZyderveld, Arnold Zintel, and Doreen Zintel; her five brothers and three sisters-in-law, George (Rose), Louis, Raymond, Victor (Ann), and Oswald (Gladys); her two sisters, Irene Heidgerken (in infancy) and Frances Heidgerken; one niece, Joan Heidgerken; and one nephew, Rodger Heidgerken. The Funeral Mass for Agnes was offered at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, on Wednesday, October 1, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. concelebrated by Fr. Ephraim Mensah and Fr. Demetrius Wasylyniuk, OSB. Others taking part were Devon Zintel, crossbearer; Helen Larratt and Colleen Miller, scripture readers; Carolyn Monz, intentions; Dolores Anthony and Rachel Lewis, giftbearers; and Luella Zintel and Vicki Bauml, memorial table attendants. Music ministry was provided by the St. Augustine Parish Funeral Choir, director, Loretta Schugmann, and organist, Marie Aubin. An honor guard was formed by the CWL. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in Agnes' life". Active pallbearers were Colleen Miller, Geoff Malin, Greg Malin, Raysha Zintel, Jacob Zintel and Quinn Zintel. Interment followed at St. Augustine R.C. Cemetery, Humboldt. Memorial donations may be directed to St. Mary's Villa Foundation or a charity of your choice.
