Mrs. Agnes Genevieve (nee Warren) Hantke of Humboldt, SK, passed away at her residence on Sunday, June 14, 2015. She was 89 years of age. Agnes was born May, 22, 1926 to Arthur Warren and Barbara Poth on their farm in the R.M. of Wolverine. The fourth of ten children she learned to sew, garden, and run a household at an early age. Agnes attended Hillsley School until Grade 9. As a young woman she worked doing housework and childcare for several families. In 1946 she married Alfred Hantke and together they raised ten children. They lived on the Hantke homestead until 1952 when they moved to Carmel so the children could get to school easier. Agnes grew a huge garden, kept chickens, sewed, and cared for her family. She was adept at math and became the family accountant, doing the farm accounts and income tax. Agnes always regretted not having the chance to complete her high school so she did her grade twelve equivalency exams and took a university accounting class at St. Peter's College. For several years she worked as a rural census taker and until she left Carmel she kept the parish financial records. In 1984 Agnes and Alfred moved into a new home in Humboldt. Agnes was a quiet, unassuming individual who never liked СÀ¶ÊÓƵ the centre of attention. She was frugal, by necessity at first, and later, out of habit. She did, however, enjoy eating out or ordering Chinese food. She loved games, particularly Kaiser, Bridge, and Scrabble. She was giving and generous except when it came to games. She played to win. Her children and grandchildren had to learn early how to lose. Agnes was a member of the CWL for 50 years, and helped out at the Seniors Centre until her health deteriorated. She was afflicted with Parkinson's disease, and had heart issues. When walking became too difficult, Agnes reluctantly used a walker. In 2013, when she needed more care than her family could provide she moved to St. Mary's Villa where she resided until her death. Agnes will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her 10 children, 30 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren: Loraine (Meryl) Berry of Gibbons, AB, and family, Michael Stashko and son Andrew, Christopher Stashko, and Steven Stashko; Eileen Germaine of Humboldt and family, Karla Germaine (Jamie Hide) and children Aysha and Cohen, Jeff Germaine (Isabelle) and children Loic and Zack, Ryan Germaine, and Lianne Germaine (Mikkel St. Jean-Duncan) and son Emeric; Karen (Gerald) Germaine of Calgary, AB, and family, Sandra (Bob) Kotch and children Coleton, Braeden and Natalie, Dwayne Germaine, Katherine Germaine (Chad Campbell) and children Jude and Emily, Janet Germaine (Robbie Bonin) and daughter Julie, and Marilyn Germaine; Terry (Ian) Blyth of Raymore and family, Kristin (Joel) Lefebvre and children Simon, Lewis and Bronwyn, Heather (Derek) Tebay and son Nathan, Bradley Blyth, and Shannon (Donnie) Lu and children Quinn and Sarah; Barbara (Blake) Alberts of Humboldt and family, Keli Alberts, and Colin (Giselle) Alberts and children Kayleigh and Holden; Mark (Joan) Hantke of Saskatoon and son David Hantke; Brenda Hantke (Garry Randall) of Humboldt and family, Kerri Hantke (Scott McDonald) and children Ellie and Evan, Kyle Hantke, Jenna Hantke Campbell and Jordan Hantke Campbell; Ken (Pauline) Hantke of Humboldt and family, Justin (Carina) Hantke, Ashley Hantke, Tracy Hantke, and Kaytlin Hantke; Judy Hantke of Humboldt; and Jeanne Hantke (Rick Bell) of Edmonton, AB, and family, Megan Bell, Josh Bell and Michaela Bell; five sisters and two brothers: Mary Loroff, George Warren, Theresa Monz, Anne Zilkowsky, Simon Warren, Myrna Sieben and Carol Sawicki; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
