THE BATTLEFORDS — Homestead Aerial Photo, a company specializing in finding historical photos of homesteads between the 1950s and 2000s, is returning to the Battlefords and area again for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Touting possible gifts for families and loved ones, a legal land description brought to one of their five stops between Wilkie, Lashburn, Maidstone, Lloydminster, and North Battleford over the course of eight days is the key to starting the process.

The stops include:

  • March 30 at the New Horizon Hall in Wilkie - 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.;
  • March 31 to April 1 in North Battleford at the Frontier Centre across from the Source;
  • April 3 Lashburn Community Hall - 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.;
  • April 4 Maidstone C.E. Wing United Church - 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and
  • April 5 to 6 Lloydminster Mall main entrance next to Shoppers.

And with no flight restrictions in the past, these aerial images were taken at a low level, with amazing detail. Visitors can also find vintage photos of towns, businesses, churches and other landmarks that may no longer remain.

"We have in stock over one million photos of farms dating back to 1952, covering Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan ..." reads their website,

"We do custom framing for any picture with several formats and options to choose from."

Homestead Aerial Photo maintains a large library of aerial land, farm and building photos from 1953 to 2001 and says its mission is to help families preserve a small piece of history.
