The Terriers were in Melfort Wednesday to meet the league’s top team, and the host Mustangs struck early as David Heath scored 42-seconds into the game.
Travis Mayan made it 2-0 Melfort at 8:06, a margin which would hold until late in the second.
Kailum Gervais would cut the lead in half with the only goal of the frame. It came on the powerplay 14:33 in.
Brandon Sookro would tie the game at 10:31 of the second, only to see the Mustangs reassert a lead when Cole Hyrsky scored the third of the night for Melfort at 15:40 of the final frame.
Mayan would add an empty-netter with 1:02 left on the clock to round out a 4-2 Mustang win.
Matt Kustra took the loss in the Terrier net facing 35-shots, while Zach DeGraves had the win for Melfort facing 30.
The Yorkton Terriers were scheduled to host Notre Dame Friday in the team’s final game before the SJHL Christmas break but results were not available as a result of an early holiday press time.
