Terriers head coach Mat Hehr said he is pleased with the results of the team鈥檚 spring camp held at the Farrell Agencies Arena on the weekend.
鈥淚t was very good,鈥� he said, adding co-hosting the camp with the AAA Midget RawTec Maulers proved a solid option for the Junior franchise.
鈥淚t was a very successful weekend, doing it with the Maulers. Moving forward, it鈥檚 probably the way it will stay,鈥� he said.
With the Maulers co-hosting, younger players attended the camp.
鈥淚t was a great chance to look at some (Bantam) draft eligible players,鈥� said Hehr.
The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Bantam Draft will be held in June and Hehr said there were players at the camp 鈥渢hat showed really well,鈥� meaning they will be part of the discussion leading up to the draft.
While the camp was a chance to evaluate younger players who may fit into the Terriers鈥� plans down the road, there were others who could make the squad at the fall camp, said Hehr.
鈥淪ome local guys had a great camp,鈥� he said, adding their showing on the weekend gave him greater confidence that they can contribute in the fall.
The combined camp attracted about 200 players, which meant a lot of talent to evaluate in a short time. Hehr said to do that he had 鈥渓ots of scouts out there evaluating talent for us.鈥�
Hehr said he had discussions on the weekend with the scouts regarding players, and there will be follow-up talks, especially regarding Bantam draft eligible players.
