The Terriers are at a 2-2-1 record as of Monday evening.
Their last home game was played on Tuesday, Sept. 20 against the Battlefords North Stars.
The Terriers came out on top with a final score of 5-1 on their home ice.
The first period ended with a score of 1-1. The Terriers鈥 first goal was scored by Brandon Sookro.
About halfway through the second period, Dexter Robinson was able to connect to the back of the net, forcing the score up to 2-1 for the Terriers, where it would stay for the rest of the second.
The third period was when the Terriers really came to life, scoring another three goals.
Cole Keenleyside, Brandon Sookro and Carson Welke all put away goals in the third.
Greg Maggio played in net for the Terriers for the entire game. He鈥檚 new to the team this season, and this was his first full game on the ice.
鈥淚t was phenomenal. I felt great out there,鈥 Maggio said after the game. 鈥淭he boys were rolling and everyone was ready to face Battlefords today. Overall I think we played well.鈥
Maggio said they still tend to be starting slow in the first period, and if they can pick up the pace early then it鈥檒l be a great season.
Coming out from a loud and celebratory dressing room at the end of the game, head coach Casey O鈥橞rien was smiling ear to ear.
鈥淲e had a very good game after the type of practice we had yesterday. I didn鈥檛 think we had the best performance on the weekend (falling two games to Weyburn). We had a hard practice yesterday and we鈥檙e going to hold guys more accountable, and there was definitely a big response tonight,鈥 said O鈥橞rien.
The defensive line noticeably came together and stepped up in this game, which is something that O鈥橞rien said they were focusing on in practice.
鈥淭he effort was there and guys were blocking shots,鈥 he said. 鈥淚f our goalies are not going to see it, [the defenders] have to try to help them out by blocking some shots,鈥 he said.
鈥淚 think it was progression in the right direction. Tonight, against the top team in the league, it was very encouraging to pick up a home ice win,鈥 said O鈥橞rien. 鈥淕etting this big win early in the season against a top-notch club is a really big boost for the guys鈥 confidence.鈥
When asked about players of his who stood out in particular, O鈥橞rien said 鈥淏randon Sookro is a goal scorer for us, he got a couple for us tonight, and our goaltender Greg Maggio played his first SJHL game 鈥 he was exceptional.鈥
The next day, the Terriers traveled to Humboldt to play the Broncos. The final score was 7-2 for the Broncos. Terriers goals were scored by Reid Anderson and Brandon Sookro.
On Monday, the Terriers traveled to Warman to take on the Nipawin Hawks and came out with another win. The final score was 3-1. Terriers goals were scored by Regan Seiferling, Tyler Baier and Corwin Stevely.
The next home game will be on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m against the Notre Dame Hounds.
