The Yorkton RawTec Maulers of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League have returned to play after taking a couple of weeks off for the Christmas holidays. The Maulers have played two games in the new year, both on the road.

The first game back was on Saturday, Jan. 7 against the Saskatoon Contacts. The Maulers came out with a loss, with the final score of 10-2 for the Contacts. Yorkton’s two goals were scored by Zach McIntyre with assists from Josh Bear and Derrick Budz, and Aiden Bulych with the assist from Josh Bear. Both goals were scored on a powerplay.

The second game of 2017 for the Maulers was played on Sunday, Jan. 8 against the Prince Albert Mintos. This game resulted in another loss for the Maulers, with a final score of 6-2. Both of Yorkton’s goals came in the third period. The first goal was scored by MacKenzie Walkington with the assists from Derrick Budz and Zach McIntyre. The second was scored with just three seconds left and came from Austin Shumanski with assists from Kishuan Gervais and Carson Benning.

These two losses moved the Maulers into the seventh place position in their league of 12 teams, with a total of 26 points. Before the Christmas break, head coach Graham Garrett said they were determined to hold the sixth place spot to ensure a playoff spot in the coming months. Three other teams currently sit with 26 points as well, so the next several weeks should be interesting on the ice as they fight to get in those top playoff spots.

The next action for the RawTec Maulers will be on home ice on Wednesday, Jan. 11.

They will face off against the Notre Dame Hounds at 8:00 p.m. at the Farrell Agencies Arena.
