A pair of 4-4 ties this past weekend with the visiting Swift Current СÀ¶ÊÓƵwest Terminal Broncos left the Yorkton Sherring Gold Terriers clinging to a small two point lead in the SSMHL’s Peewee Division with no more games remaining on their regular season schedule.

Swift Current, the only team with a chance of catching Yorkton, has two games remaining next weekend and one win will give them first place and the regular season title.

Saturday’s game saw the Broncos open the scoring on a Riley Dekowny goal midway through the first period.

A Tony Roebuck marker in the second drew the Terriers even, however Taylor Lind restored the Swift Current one goal advantage not long after.

A pair of Yorkton goals, one by Kylen Taphorn and the other by Jackson Berezowski made it 3-2 Yorkton after two periods.

Swift Current’s Rhett Evjen made it a 3-3 hockey game early in the third only to have Ryder Korczak regain the Yorkton lead with a power play goal with 6:42 left in the game.

A late Lind unassisted marker with just over a minute left in the game brought the Broncos back to even, resulting in a 4-4 draw.

The following day the two teams hooked up again.

Evjen gave the visitors a 1-0 lead before goals by Lind and Mac Gross made it 3-0 Swift Current.

Tanner Hoffman got one back for Yorkton before the end of the period, however Levi Lamotte quickly restored the three goal Swift Current lead giving the Broncos a 4-1 advantage after one period.

A pair of Yorkton goals in the second, one each by Korczak and Hoffman, made it a one goal game after 40 minutes before Roebuck’s second goal in as many games midway through the third period made it 4-4.

Both teams had opportunities to take the lead in the final 10 minutes, however both goalies, Yorkton’s Spencer Welke and Swift Current’s Jacob Herman did their job, preventing the puck from once again finding the back of the net. Final score, 4-4.

The Sherring Gold Terriers also suffered some bad luck in Game One of their two game total goal Provincial third round series against the Weyburn Youngfellow Wings last Wednesday.

The Sherring Gold Terriers fell 5-3 to Weyburn in the first game.

Riley Skarbon opened the scoring for the visitors in the first minute of the game, only to have Yorkton blueliner Chace Sperling notch one for the home team at the midway point of the frame.

Skarbon’s second with just over a minute remaining in the first period gave Weyburn a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes.

Josh Haczkewicz scored the lone goal of the second period to tie the game up at two, however a three goal explosion by Weyburn in the third period, two by Ethan Ernst and one by Drew Englot, gave the Wings a 5-2 lead.

A late goal by Jackson Berezowski brought the Terriers to within two, however that was as close as they would get as Weyburn took Game One 5-3.

Up next

The Sherring Gold Terriers have finished their regular season. However they will be travelling to Weyburn tomorrow for Game Two of their two game total goals Provincial third round series against the Weyburn Youngfellow Wings. Yorkton lost 5-3 in Game One and now need to win Game Two by at least three goals to move on to the next round.
