Peewee ‘AA’ one win away from provincial and league titles

The Yorkton Sherring Gold Terriers of the SSMHL Peewee ‘AA’ Division are one win away from winning their fourth consecutive Provincial title after derailing the Saskatoon Express 7-2 in Game One of their two game total goal Provincial final series.

The Sherring Gold Terriers are also one win away from a fifth straight SSMHL Playoff championship after defeating the top ranked Swift Current СÀ¶ÊÓƵwest Terminal Broncos 3-1 on enemy ice Sunday, March 22 in Swift Current.

Tanner Hoffman opened the scoring for Yorkton 4:51 into the first period before Sherring Gold leading scorer Jackson Berezowski made it 2-0 with just 18 seconds remaining in the frame when his 11th of the postseason beat Bronco goaltender Jacob Herman.

Swift Current got to within one with 7:43 left in the second period when Rhett Evjen put his first of the playoffs past Yorkton net minder Kael DePape, however it was Yorkton that would have the last say offensively in the period, and game, as Berezowski rounded out the scoring with 3:37 to go before the second intermission with his second of the game.

A scoreless third period saw the Yorkton Sherring Gold Terriers hand Swift Current their first loss in all SSMHL play this season, 3-1.

With the win the Sherring Gold Terriers had a chance to sweep the three game series last night at the Farrell Agencies Arena however results were unavailable at press time.

The next Provincial action for the Sherring Gold Terriers will be this Saturday when they host the Saskatoon Express for Game Two of their two game total goal series.

Game Two is set for Saturday at the Farrell Agencies Arena. Puck drop is 2:45p.m. and Yorkton takes a five goal lead into the game.
