The Yorkton Kinsmen Midget AA Terriers are off to the finals of the league playoffs.
In round two, the semi finals, Yorkton was matched with Weyburn in the best-of-five series, and Yorkton came out with three wins in four games.
The final two games of the series were played last weekend.
On Friday, the Kinsmen Terriers hosted the Weyburn Streamline Oilfield Wings. This was the only game that Weyburn came away with a win, with a final score of 5-3.
Yorkton’s goals came from Colby Vranai and Michael Coleridge in the first period of play, and Colby Vranai again in the second period.
On Sunday, the Kinsmen Terriers headed to Weyburn to play at the Crescent Point Place. They were able to return to Yorkton with the win after a close game, with a final score of 5-4. This game also claimed them the series win.
In the first period, Yorkton’s goals came from Colin MacDonald, Ethan Evanovich and Michael Coleridge.
In the second, Colby Vranai scored Yorkton’s only goal.
And in the third, there was a 4-4 tie until the last seven seconds of play.
But then at the last moment, Ethan Evanovich got his second goal of the night and the game winner.
The semi-final win puts the Kinsmen Terriers in the league finals against the Apex Bruins.
At the end of the regular season, the Apex Bruins held the first place spot in standings with 61 points, while the Kinsmen Terriers held second place with 60 points.
The Apex Bruins held a 29-4-3 record while the Kinsmen Terriers had a 28-4-4 record.
However, the two teams met three times in the regular season, and the Kinsmen Terriers took all three wins against the Apex Bruins.
The first game of the series kicks off on Saturday, Mar. 18 in Estevan.
Game two will be held in Yorkton on Tuesday, Mar. 21 at 8:00 p.m. at the Farrell Agencies Arena.
