Expanded recall covers affected products sold nationally

OTTAWA — The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has expanded the recall of Al-Rabih brand Halva/Halawa over the possibility of a Salmonella contamination.

OTTAWA — The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has expanded the recall of Al-Rabih brand Halva/Halawa over the possibility of a Salmonella contamination.

The original recall involved halva/halawa with pistachios manufactured by Phoenicia Group, and sold in 454g and 907g packages.

The expansion now includes 200g and 2.5 kg packages of halva/halawa with pistachios, as well as 200g, 454g and 907g packages of halva/halawa with chocolate, 454g packages of plain light and 200g, 454g and 907g and 2.5 kg packages of plain.

Phoenicia Group is also expanding its July 15 recall of Al-Rabih brand tahini to include 200g, 907g, 4.54kg and 18kg containers, in addition to the 454g packages in the original recall.

The company says all the products were distributed nationally.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says there have been no reports of illness associated with the products.

Salmonella poisoning can result in a wide range of symptoms, from short-term fever, headache and nausea to more serious issues including severe arthritis and, in rare cases, even death.
