CYPRESS HILLS — This winter, ring in the holidays with "Trim Your Tree" in Cypress Hills Interprovincial Parks experience, which allows park visitors to cut down their own Christmas trees to take home.
"Trim Your Tree", which runs Nov. 26 to Dec. 23, supports fire suppression efforts within Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park by allowing visitors to cut down spruce trees within designated FireSmart blocks.
Visitors looking to participate are asked to stop by the park administration office upon arrival to pick up a tree permit and receive directions to the designated tree cutting area. Those planning to stay the night, can book accommodations at The Resort at Cypress Hills.
New this year, Sask Parks has partnered with Engelheim Tours to offer a packaged "Trim Your Tree" experience. Running from Dec. 10 to 11, it's complete with transportation, accommodations, guided activities and meals. Other Engelheim Tour packages that will be offered this winter include trips to Duck Mountain, Buffalo Pound and Echo Valley Provincial Parks. Participants can take part in all four tours and receive a free 2023 annual park entry permit as well as a $25 future travel credit with Engelheim Tours.
Campers are reminded that from Nov. 1 until March 15, online reservable campsites are offered, including Camp-Easy sites, at Buffalo Pound, Cypress Hills, Duck Mountain, Echo Valley and Pike Lake Provincial Parks.
Park officials say "Trim Your Tree" is the perfect opportunity to experience winter camping. With two Camp-Easy tents at Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park, visitors can experience the extra comfort of cots, camp chairs, an axe and a wood burning stove.
Camp-Easy sites are $80 and can also be booked ahead of time, online.
Campers should note that services will be reduced during the winter. Each campsite will have a note on the reservation site notifying what services are available, such as electricity, water, sewer or pit toilets. The nightly rates for Oct. 1 to March 15 are discounted to reflect the reduced services.
