SASKATOON - Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation has announced that teachers will withdraw all extracurricular support starting next Tuesday.

This latest job action was announced at an STF media call with reporters Thursday afternoon. The province-wide withdrawal will start with two full days on Tuesday, March 5 and Wednesday, March 6.

All voluntary services will be withdrawn in the organization, supervision and facilitation of activities including athletics, non-curricular arts, field trips, student travel, and graduation preparations, according to STF.

Already, teachers have been involved in a number of rotating job actions this week scheduled through Friday, including rotating strikes, withdrawal of noon hour supervision and withdrawal of extrcurriculars.

In speaking to reporters Thursday, STF President Samantha Becotte made it known this latest job action could be avoided if the government were to include the offer they had made outside of bargaining -- an offer that would address classroom size and complexity issues -- in the Government- Trustee Bargaining Committee’s renewed mandate.

"Government has made offers outside of the bargaining process, but we are simply asking for them to commit to where they can be held accountable in our current provincial collective agreement. If Minister (of Education Jeremy) Cockrill, Premier (Scott) Moe, and Saskatchewan School Boards Association President Jaimie Smith-Windsor are truly committed to improving the conditions in classrooms across the province, they should have no problem putting those commitments into a provincial agreement with teachers," Becotte said.
