ROCANVILLE — A popular place for Rocanville kids returns this summer as Rocanville town council approved hiring five staff for the summer program.
“Every year, our Recreation Department hosts a summer day camp for kids that are not in daycare, but not old enough to stay home alone every day,” explained Town of Rocanville Administrator Tanya Strandlund.
Held at the Rec Centre through July and August, the program is open to kids between the ages of five and 12.
“We have five teachers and they do all kinds of activities,” said Strandlund. “It’s a great free time for the kids in the summer.”
Aquatic Centre updates
As reported recently in the World-Spectator, Copper Ridge Construction of Wapella has been selected as the general contractor for the pool refurbishment project. The contract came up as a New Business item on the meeting agenda, just to make things official.
Another item was approving the MPE Engineering Confirmation of Assignment, which Strandlund explained was to redo the drawings for a wood building versus a steel building for the new pool.
“It’s exciting that they’re making plans behind the scenes of ‘when and if,’ and everything getting set up and started,” Strandlund remarked.
Work on the project is anticipated to begin shortly as the successful ICIP grant gained by the Town requires substantial work be done by Dec. 31.
The pool is expected to re-open in 2025.
New town banners
Town staff are looking at options for replacement banners in town, adding a little more flare to a busy main street.
“Previously, there were yellow, red and blue banners in the town, and we’re looking at updating with some new designs and putting some new ones on the lamp posts to spruce up the Main Street,” Strandlund said. “Right now, we’re working with a couple different companies with quotes on what the material is and hardware and designing.”
School zone congestion
A concerned citizen brought the issue of congestion in the school zone during peak times. While something the town can’t really act on, the concern is a good reminder for motorists to abide by rules such as not parking in the school bus zone, plus avoiding passing a bus with stop signs out and flashing lights activated.
