The iPhone 16 series, which includes the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max, will be shipping by mid-September.

Greetings from Tokyo. I'm on my way to Bangkok, where I'm going to spend the week with my friends at AppsFlyer talking about AI. As I am a half-day out of sync with NYC, I thought I'd share the Apple updates I just pieced together from all the emails and text that were waiting for me when I landed.

The iPhone 16 series, which includes the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max, will be shipping by mid-September. Apple's big announcement is scheduled to take place at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino on Monday, September 9, at 10 a.m. PT. That's the end of the confirmed facts.

Pre-Orders Begin: This date typically falls on the Friday one week before the on-sale date, which this year would be Friday, September 15. The rumor mill is saying pre-orders will start on the 13th or 14th. We'll know soon enough.

iOS 18 Release Date: iOS is often released in the same week as the keynote, but most of my contacts think it will be available on Monday, September 16. If your iPhone can run iOS 17, it will be able to run iOS 18 as well, as the compatibility list remains the same, reaching back to the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR. This is all speculation.

One Thing I’m Sure Of: If you're on the "new phone every year plan," get your credit re-confirmed so your pre-order process will go smoothly. Not doing this in advance kind of ruins your pre-order day.

That's all I know about the new iPhone launch. Happy Labor Day to those who celebrate. -s
