SGI鈥檚 top 10 for a safe New Year鈥檚 Eve

REGINA — SGI is offering up 10 ways to make sure you and your loved ones get home safe this New Year’s Eve.  

10. Make a plan. 鉁 You’ve got options and taking the time to decide before you hit the town can help everyone relax and enjoy the evening.

9. Take the bus. In Regina, Saskatoon, Prince Albert and Moose Jaw, you can ride the bus for free on New Year’s Eve. Any bus can be a party bus if you have the right attitude.馃殞 馃帀 

8. Hail a cab. 馃殨 

7. Order a rideshare.馃摫 

6. Use a designated driving service.馃こ 

5. Designate a sober driver, or volunteer to be one.馃檵‍鈾锔 

4. Call a sober friend or family member.馃摓 

3. Hosting? Consider making non-alcoholic beverages available. Make sure your guests don’t drive home if they’re impaired. 馃

2. Feeling fancy? Book a limo or party bus for you and your crew. 馃拑

Police across Saskatchewan will be conducting check stops and other forms of impaired driving enforcement on New Year’s Eve. You never know where you may encounter a check stop, so exercise your options to #FindASafeRide.

November Traffic Spotlight results

Law enforcement reported 422 offences of impaired driving last month, including 153 Criminal Code charges and 269 administrative suspensions.

These offences resulted in a variety of consequences, including licence suspensions, vehicle impoundments, financial penalties and a mandatory impaired driving education course. 

Other results from November include:

·     700 tickets for distracted driving (including 618 for drivers using cellphones);

·     4,083 tickets for other speeding or aggressive driving offences; and 

·     275 tickets for seatbelt and car seat offences.
