Pears for Christmas?

Pears make a worthy addition to anyone's diet.

It might not garner the same level of attention as apples, bananas or other popular fruits, but the humble pear packs quite a nutritious punch.

A medium-sized, 100-calorie pear contains 21 per cent of the recommended daily value of fibre and 8 per cent of the recommended daily value of vitamin C.

The fibre in pears can be especially beneficial, as fibre promotes a healthy gastrointestinal tract and helps maintain balance and regularity. Fibre also has been linked to a reduced risk for colorectal cancer, making pears a worthy addition to anyone's diet.

And especially tasty at Christmas.
