REGINA - North Regina Little League has punched its ticket to Williamsport.
The team is headed to the Little League World Series after it took the Canadian title at home 4-3 over the BC Little League team, Little Mountain Baseball from Vancouver.
It was a dramatic end to the Canadian championships that saw teams from across Canada compete in Regina from August 1-10.
In the championship game, BC had taken a 1-0 lead, but North Regina scored four runs in the third inning to take the lead, and even though BC scored two in the final sixth inning it was not enough.
For North Regina, they had started the tournament 0-3 but then didn’t lose again as they take the Canadian title on home turf. The BC team, who were defending champions, had gone undefeated until the final game.
This is the first berth for North Regina in the Little League World Series since 2002. The team now heads to Williamsport, Pennsylvania where the Little League World Series will be played August 16-27.
