Nevin Markwart running for Sask Party in Regina Walsh Acres

Markwart, former NHLer, was acclaimed to run for SaskParty in the former seat vacated by the death of Derek Meyers.

Nevin Markwart is running in Regina Walsh Acres for the Sask Party.

REGINA - In a move the late Derek Meyers might have appreciated, the Sask Party has nominated a former NHLer to run in the former sportscaster's seat.

On Monday Nevin Markwart was acclaimed as the Saskatchewan Party candidate in Regina Walsh Acres. 

Markwart is a former Regina Pat who was drafted in 1983 by the Boston Bruins and played nine seasons in the NHL. Following his hockey days he worked in the global investments management industry for over 25 years; Markwart is now Chief Information Security Officer with FutureVault, a cloud-based document management company. 

“I am very grateful and excited for the opportunity to serve the community I grew up in,” Markwart said in a statement. “I look forward to meeting with the great people of Regina Walsh Acres on their doorsteps this summer, and will be working hard to earn their vote.”

He will run in the seat vacated by the death of Meyers, the former Global TV sportscaster who was in his first term as 小蓝视频 for Regina Walsh Acres. 

This is the second candidate the Saskatchewan Party has nominated for the three upcoming byelections expected to be called this summer. Previously, on May 27, the party had nominated Riaz Ahmad to be their candidate in Regina Coronation Park. The candidate for Lumsden-Morse will be chosen on June 8.

The New Democrats do not yet have their candidate in place for Regina Walsh Acres, but have announced they have scheduled their nomination meeting for June 12.
