REGINA — A 42-year-old man is facing charges after stealing a vehicle outside the front entrance of Regina General Hospital.

The victims told police they were leaving the hospital shortly after 9 p.m., and about to assist a family member into the passenger seat, when a man approached the driver’s side of the running vehicle, got in and drove off. Before exiting the parking lot, the suspect hit a parked vehicle and a construction fence. No one was physically injured.

About 15 minutes later, the RPS Communications Centre received a call that a vehicle matching the description of the stolen vehicle had hit a curb and was hung up on a sidewalk in the area of 14th Avenue and Osler Street. Officers attended and located the vehicle, which was heavily damaged. The suspect fled the scene.

An area search began and, at approximately 9:45 p.m., the suspect was located in a business in the 1800 block of Saskatchewan Drive. He was taken into custody without further incident.

He is charged with theft of a motor vehicle and failure to stop after an accident.
