POUNDMAKER CREE NATION - Two people are facing charges after an alleged armed robbery on Poundmaker Cree Nation.
On Aug. 16 at approximately 1:25 a.m., Cut Knife RCMP received a report of an armed robbery at a home on Poundmaker Cree Nation.
Officers responded immediately. Investigation determined two individuals approached four victims. One woman was assaulted. A man was threatened with a firearm, which was discharged into the air, and he was forced to drive the suspects to a home on Poundmaker Cree Nation.
Once at the home, the suspects got into an altercation with another man, demanding the keys to a truck parked on the driveway. The keys were not provided to them, and the suspects fled the scene on foot.
The female victim who was initially assaulted reported non-life threatening injuries to police. The male victim did not report any physical injuries.
Saskatchewan RCMP’s Remotely-Piloted Aircraft System was deployed to conduct searches of the area. Officers located a female suspect running behind a home on Poundmaker Cree Nation. She was arrested at the scene without incident.
Battlefords, Maidstone, and Unity RCMP and Meadow Lake Police Dog Services assisted in this investigation.
As a result of continued investigation, on Aug. 18, officers located the male suspect at a home on Poundmaker Cree Nation and arrested him without incident.
Durrell Bearsears, 27, from Little Pine First Nation, is charged with: robbery with a firearm; possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle; discharge firearm with intent; uttering threats against a person; weapons possession contrary to order; assault with a weapon; careless use of a firearm; and fail to comply with probation order.
Jessica Fox, 21, is charged with: robbery with a firearm; assault; uttering threats against a person; and possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle.
Bearsears was also arrested on an outstanding warrant from Cut Knife RCMP.
Bearsears and Fox appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on Aug. 19.
