REGINA - The cause of last week’s explosion and fire at Luiggi’s restaurant on Albert Street has been determined.
Regina Fire and Protective Services states that after an extensive investigation by their investigators, and in collaboration with the Technical Safety Authority of Saskatchewan (TSASK), they concluded the explosion and ensuing fire on Jan. 10 was accidental.
In a news release, Regina Fire states that a steel pipe became dislodged and fell from the underside of the roof deck, striking a component of the natural gas distribution system below. This caused a major gas release and the subsequent explosion, which was set off by an ignition source in the mechanical room.
The fire department states that their control of the scene has been released and turned over to the property owner.
