Cattle market update: Prices mixed last week

There were 12,210 Saskatchewan feeder cattle marketed, up from the 9,158 feeder cattle marketed the previous week.

SASKATCHEWAN — Prices for feeder steers in Saskatchewan were mostly up while feeder heifers were mixed, according to the Cattle Market Update for the week ending March 22.

The 400-500 to 600-700 lb steer categories reported week-over-week increases, while the 700-800 lb categories experienced decreases, the 900+ lb category lacked a price difference, and no data was available for the 300-400 lb category expect for the last reported price on March 15 at $475.17 per cwt. On the heifer side, the 400-500, 600-700, and 800+ lb categories saw their respective prices decrease compared to the prior week, while the 500-600 and 700-800 lb categories were up in price, and no data was available for the 300-400 lb heifer category.

There were 12,210 Saskatchewan feeder cattle marketed, up from the 9,158 feeder cattle marketed the previous week.

The Canfax price for Alberta fed steers on the week ending March 22 was $233.10 per cwt, which is $1.15 per cwt below the previous week. Prices for Alberta cows increased for the week ending March 22. D2 cows averaged $166.25 per cwt, up $3.81 per cwt above the previous week, while D3 cows were up $4.81 per cwt over the previous week to average $145.92 per cwt.
