A talent show held at the Star Theatre in Unity saw vocalists Mrs. Agnes Olfert and Miss Fay Weran and pianists Lana Savastianik and Allyson Hepting advance to the next competition in the Saskatchewan Search for Talent.

Fifteen rail cars derailed near the Reford elevator, with several hundred feet of the rail bed completely demolished following the incident. Passenger trains east- and westbound were to be rerouted through North Battleford for at least 24 hours.

Zone Commander Bill Fleming of Unity attended a supper meeting of the Wilkie Legion.

Gerry Cey of the Wilkie Outlaws was the scoring leader in the Wild Goose Hockey League, with 15 goals and 14 assists in 12 games.

Playing at the local theatre was Lady Sings the Blues, the story of Billie Holiday.

Jan Venn, waitress at the Armada restaurant in Unity, was named Employee of the Year at the Unity Chamber of Commerce Recognition Banquet. Perry Wirth, a meat cutter at Delta Co-op, also won an award for customer service. Employers of the Year were Lorne and Joan Shead of Shead’s Variety Store.

Unity singer Crystal Gilbert qualified to perform at Telemiracle.

Local RCMP were urging motorists to lock their vehicles and take keys with them, after a homecare worker’s car was taken for a joyride while she was attending to patients in Heritage Manor in Unity. Cst. Tim Popp said the days of leaving keys in a vehicle or leaving a vehicle running were over, no matter the size of the community.
