Police have announced that Myles Sanderson is not on James Smith Cree Nation and is still at large.

There had been a massive police presence on the reserve earlier today amid reports that the suspect in this weekend's killings at James Smith Cree Nation was sighted on the reserve. However, according to the latest alert he is not located there.

Here is the latest province wide Emergency Alert on the situation issued at 3 p.m. today:

Update 9 for the Dangerous Person Alert issued by the Melfort RCMP for multiple fatal stabbings. Further investigation has determined that Myles Sanderson is not located in the community of James Smith Cree Nation and the RCMP continues to search for him. As his whereabouts remain unknown, we urge the public to take appropriate precautions. For photo, description and updates, visit:

Melfort RCMP has also issued this update at 3 p.m.:

After further investigation into the reports of possible sightings of Myles Sanderson on the James Smith Cree Nation, the Saskatchewan RCMP has determined that he is not located in the community. The RCMP continues to search for Myles Sanderson. As his whereabouts remain unknown, the emergency alert is active for the entire province and we continue to urge the public to take appropriate precautions.

Saskatchewan RCMP F Division have issued this update on the situation:

The Saskatchewan RCMP are working in collaboration with municipal police agencies within the province and additional RCMP police resources from neighbouring provinces to assist with the investigation and to ensure the continued safety of the public.

Thirty-two-year-old Myles Sanderson (DOB: 1990-02-02) is involved in an active investigation for multiple homicides which occurred on Sept. 4, 2022, at the James Smith Cree Nation and Weldon. 

Myles is described as СÀ¶ÊÓƵ approximately 6’1” weighing approximately 240 lbs, with brown hair and brown eyes.

Myles Sanderson is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest and he is facing the following charges:

  • three counts of first-degree murder, contrary to Sec. 235(1) of theCriminal Code;
  • one count of attempted murder, contrary to Sec. 239(1)(b) of theCriminal Code; and
  • one count of break-and-enter, contrary to Sec. 348(1)(b) of theCriminal Code

Police still consider Myles to be armed and dangerous. If he is seen, police advise to not approach him and immediately call 911.

The Saskatchewan RCMP would like to thank the public for their diligence in providing pertinent information about potential sightings of Myles Sanderson. Police continue to encourage the public to report any information relating to this investigation to their local RCMP detachment or by calling 911.

Investigators have obtained an updated photo of Myles Sanderson. Myles may not be wearing glasses and his current appearance may not exactly resemble the photo. This is the highest quality photo available at this time.
