Suspicious fire: Saskatoon firefighters rescue three people

The scene has been turned over to the fire investigator. Saskatoon Police Service is investigating.

SASKATOON – Firefighters had to use the ladder truck to rescue three people off the balcony of one of the suites in a multi-unit residential structure fire Friday morning. They say the fire is suspicious and caused about $30,000 in damage.

Saskatoon Fire Department say that they got a call at about 6:27 am. on April 21 about a fire alarm in a multi-residential building. Three fire engines, one rescue unit, one ladder truck and the Battalion Chief were dispatched.

Fire crews found a small fire and heavy smoke on the upper floors of the building. Firefighters brought the fire under control and used fans to clear the smoke from the building. At 8:23 a.m. the fire scene was turned over to the Fire Investigator.

One of the occupants from the building was assessed by paramedics on scene and released.

The cause of the fire has been deemed suspicious and the scene has been turned over to the fire investigator. Saskatoon Police Service is investigating.

Saskatoon Fire Department would like to remind the public that when a fire alarm sounds everyone must safely evacuate the building. The activation of a fire alarm is a warning that the conditions inside the structure are dangerous to life or health.
