DILLON – A man who fled from police on a quad and tried hiding behind a tree, was eventually arrested and charged with drug trafficking offences.

Anthony Kiezie, 41, was seen by Dillon RCMP while they were doing patrols on Buffalo River Dene Nation in the morning on April 10. Officers knew he was wanted on multiple warrants for offences including trafficking, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and flight from a peace officer.

When he saw police, he drove away at a high rate of speed and went down a trail. His quad became stuck and he fled on foot.

Officers continued to search for him and found him an hour later hiding behind a tree. Police seized two bags containing a large sum of cash, approximately 123 grams of cocaine and trafficking paraphernalia that he had beside him.

Kiezie was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, trafficking, possession of stolen property over $5,000, resisting a police officer, and six counts of failing to comply with release conditions. He appeared in court in Canoe Lake on April 11.

Officers continued searching for him and about an hour later, located him hiding behind a tree.

When he was arrested, officers located and seized two bags containing a large sum of cash, approximately 123 grams of cocaine and trafficking paraphernalia beside him.
