Saskatoon woman pleads guilty for her part in Jessica Caron's murder

Murder victim Jessica Caron was employed by FSIN at the Wellness Centre in Saskatoon.

SASKATOON – Crystal Lafond Laliberte, who was previously charged with accessory after the fact to the murder of 44-year-old Jessica Caron, has entered a guilty plea for committing an indignity to human remains.

Crystal Lafond Laliberte appeared in Saskatoon Provincial Court Tuesday from Pine Grove Correctional Centre. Her defence counsel Patrick McDougall entered an election of provincial court. Crown Lana Morelli is prosecuting the case.

Laliberte’s two-hour sentencing hearing has been scheduled for Nov. 1 and Judge Lua Gibb ordered that she appear in person.

Crystal Lafond and Derek Caron were arrested Feb. 7 after Saskatoon police found a woman’s body off of 11th Street west of Saskatoon a few kilometres from Highway 7. Police say they went to the area around 4 a.m. that day after getting a call about suspicious activity. 

Court documents show that Jessica Caron was killed on Feb. 1. Derek and Jessica Caron were married.

According to a Colleen Dobmeier, Jessica left behind eight children and was predeceased by her son Brandon Applegate who was murdered in Saskatoon on Oct. 4, 2020.

Jessica Caron was employed by FSIN at the Wellness Centre in Saskatoon.  A has been created to help her family.

Derek Thomas Caron will stand trial on a charge of second-degree murder in Saskatoon Court of King’s Bench.
