Saskatoon police use of Taser examined after arrest

Police were called to a home in the 1200 block of Avenue F North Saturday morning.

SASKATOON - A 24-year-old man is in custody Saturday morning following an incident that resulted in Saskatoon police deploying a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW).

Police say that at 3:45 a.m., on Feb. 11 they were called to a residence in the 1200 block of Avenue F North for a male in a vulnerable state barricaded with a knife. When they arrived, he was armed with a knife and was threatening to harm himself. When officers were unable to de-escalate the situation verbally, a CEW was deployed and the man was taken into custody.

He was assessed at the scene by Medavie Health Services and subsequently transported to detention.

Police say the incident will be reviewed in accordance with Saskatoon Police Service policy.
