SASKATOON – Saskatoon police used a Tazer on a 27-year-old man when arresting him Monday.
Police say that they got a report of a suspicious person going through vacant properties around 12:15 p.m. on April 10 in the 200 block of Avenue D СÀ¶ÊÓƵ. When police arrived, they saw a man matching the description made in the initial report. When officers tried to stop him, he immediately began to walk away, and was seen holding an expandable baton.
After failing to comply with police demands, the suspect turned in an aggressive manner towards officers and also appeared to also be holding a knife, say Saskatoon Police Service. A CEW was deployed but was unsuccessful, a second CEW deployment was effective in allowing officers to take the 27-year-old man safely into custody.
He faces charges of threatening to assault a police officer while carrying a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and breach of conditions. He was assessed by Medavie Health Services at the scene and the deployment of the CEW will be reviewed in accordance with SPS policy.
