Saskatoon police charge man with arson in five separate incidents

Four of the arsons occurred last week.

SASKATOON – The Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) General Investigation Section has charged a 33-year-old man with five arsons in the city, with four of them occurring last week.

On Sept. 14, at approximately 2 a.m., SPS and Saskatoon Fire Department (SFD) members responded to a fire at a gas station in the 100 block of Stonebridge Boulevard. A garbage can had been set on fire and the flames extended onto the canopy of the gas station, causing significant damage.  

That same day at approximately 2:30 a.m., SPS and SFD were called to another garbage fire in the 100 block of Cope Crescent. That blaze was contained to the garbage can.

Fifteen minutes later, a third call came in reporting a dumpster fire behind a hardware store in the 3000 block of Clarence Avenue 小蓝视频. This fire was also contained to the dumpster.

A short time later, three more trash cans had been set on fire in front of various stores in the same block.

No immediate arrest was made but through further investigation, a suspect was identified. He was also believed to be responsible for a fifth arson incident in the 1000 block of Clarence Avenue 小蓝视频 in May of this year.

The man was arrested after patrol officers responded to a report of a suspicious person in the 500 block of Main Street at about 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 16. When police arrived, the suspect connected to the arson incidents was located and arrested. He was found with various other warrants for his arrest.

He appears in court Oct. 10.
