Regina man faces weapons charges

Man seen carrying weapon, entering house after loud noise: say police.

REGINA – Hearing a loud bang and seeing a person carrying a gun prompted contact with police on the morning of March 2.

Police were dispatched to the 1400 block of Edward Street just after 7:30 a.m., acting on information that the individual with the weapon had entered a home.

“When police arrived, officers made contact with the individuals inside the residence,” said RPS in a media release. “Four individuals – three males and one female – came out of the house and were taken into police custody without incident.”

After a search warrant was executed, police recovered a firearm and ammunition, with one of the men involved facing charges.

Wesley Dwayne Taypotat, 32, of Regina was charged with possession of an unathorized firearm, possession of a prohibited/restricted firearm with ammunition, careless storage of a firearm, failure to comply with a probation order and two counts possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order.

Taypotat made his first court appearance on these charges on March 3.
