RCMP traffic stop leads to drug charge in Moosomin

Police also discover stolen items, large amount of money and illegal cigarettes.

MOOSOMIN – A Calgary couple ended up receiving charges and a court date after a traffic stop on Highway 1 recently. An officer on patrol during the afternoon of Dec. 22 stopped the westbound vehicle.

“During the traffic stop, the officer determined the two vehicle occupants may be in possession of a controlled substance,” said RCMP in a media release. “As a result, the occupants were both detained for a drug investigation.”

Police discovered unmarked tobacco, which led to an arrest for that offence.

“A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of a large sum of bundled Canadian currency as well as one ounce of cocaine,” RCMP said.

Katie Jane Hagan, 37, and Elroy Wilson Brooks, 45, were jointly charged with possession of a controlled substance; possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000; and possession of unmarked tobacco that is not black stock. The pair are scheduled to make their first court appearance on these charges on Feb. 21 in Moosomin.
