NORTH BATTLEFORD – A preliminary hearing has been set for a North Battleford man charged with second-degree murder in the death of 24-year-old Wendy Bird from Prince Albert.

The hearing in North Battleford Provincial Court in May will determine if there is enough evidence for Dustin Cookman-Watts, 25, to stand trial.

Shortly after 8 a.m. on Oct. 16, 2022, Warman RCMP received a report of a deceased person along Highway 16 near Maymont. Four days later police arrested Watts and charged him with murder. Melissa Kaponyas from Biggar was also arrested and charged with accessory after the fact.
