Police respond to over 100 calls during Country Thunder

RCMP say 26 arrested.

CRAVEN – Some folks left the rowdy Country Thunder weekend with more than a hangover.

According to RCMP, officers responded to 105 calls for service related to the music festival weekend, between July 12 and 17th. Of those calls, down from 126 for the same time last year, 26 people were taken into custody (there were 32 arrested last year). 

For a break down, police had 27 calls for disturbing the peace, 24 liquor act offences, 14 roadside suspensions due to alcohol impairment, seven calls to assist, four impaired operation calls, three reports of lost items, three mischief, two reports of assault, two calls for impaired drivers, two calls to assist non-RCMP agency, and a pair of vehicle insurance violations. 

A further number of single calls included assault with a weapon, 60 day suspension for drug impairment, mental health act, obstructing justice, family dispute, theft under $5,000, possession of cocaine, consuming cannabis in a public place, suspicious person, stolen credit card, and a well-СÀ¶ÊÓÆµ check.

From the 105 calls for service, 15 people had their license suspended due to drug or alcohol impairment - four of those facing criminal charges.

“I am proud of the collaboration amongst all officers and representatives present during the event,” said S/Sgt. Tim Sartison from the СÀ¶ÊÓÆµ District Management Team. “Our officers ensured they were accessible to respond to calls for services and maintained traffic safety. We assisted and worked closely with our partners, some of which include, Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency, Saskatchewan Highway Patrol, Saskatchewan Government Insurance, Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority, event organizers, and on-site festival security to ensure a safe weekend."
